FAQ
Is it necessary to replace the pistons during a standard overhaul?
We recommend using a standard high-quality transmission assembly goo (like Lubegard Assemblee Goo) to ensure the piston slides into the drum without "rolling" or cutting the seal. The AEM material is fully compatible with all synthetic and mineral-based ATFs.
Do Hi-Per Blue pistons improve shift quality?
Yes. By maintaining a perfect hydraulic seal, these pistons ensure that the transmission applies exactly the right amount of pressure to the clutch packs. This eliminates "lazy" or flared shifts caused by pressure leaking past a hardened or worn OE seal.
Can these pistons be used in daily drivers, or are they only for racing?
While they are a "performance" upgrade, they are highly recommended for all rebuilds. The improved seal support and dynamic fatigue resistance make them ideal for daily drivers, towing vehicles, and off-roaders where long-term reliability is the goal.
What is the main benefit of "Blue" AEM material over standard black seals?
Standard black seals are usually ACM (Acrylic Rubber), which begins to lose flexibility at extreme temperatures and can become brittle in as little as 50,000 miles. The Blue AEM (Ethylene Acrylic Elastomer) used in Hi-Per Blue pistons is a premium elastomer that stays soft and pliable up to 175°C (347°F), significantly extending the life of the transmission.
