This TransGo 5R110W-A SHIFT KIT® Transmission Repair Kit is specifically designed for 2003 and later Ford vehicles equipped with the 5R110W automatic transmission. This kit addresses common issues such as runaway reverse pressure, case lug blowout, loss of movement, slipping or lack of reverse, neutralizing at stops, and converter clutch slippage or associated error codes.
Common Issues Addressed:
The pressure regulator (PR) valve in these transmissions is prone to sticking in its bore, often due to pump casting distortion. When the PR valve sticks in the exhaust position, it can lead to low or no line pressure. If this occurs while engaging forward or reverse, the driver might instinctively rev the engine to check if the transmission is in gear. This can cause a surge in pump volume, leading to a dangerous pressure spike.
In reverse, this pressure spike can blow out the low reverse clutch case lugs. In drive, it can create a neutral drop condition, damaging the low diode assembly and resulting in a loss of forward movement. Additionally, the factory setting for converter clutch apply pressure is often too low for vehicles under heavy load, leading to clutch slippage or error codes.
