What is the difference between a Sonnax Sure Cure Kit and a "Shift Kit"?
A standard shift kit is usually designed to make the transmission shift faster or harder for performance. The Sonnax Sure Cure Kit is a "Correction and Reliability" kit. It focuses on fixing the internal hydraulic leaks and wear points (like the AFL and TCC valves) that cause failures. It provides crisp, firm, reliable shifts that are comfortable for daily driving and heavy towing without being "abusive" to the hard parts.
Do I need a professional to install the Sure Cure Kit?
This is a technical kit that requires removing the transmission pan and valve body. While no complex machining is required for most of the parts, you will need to be comfortable with valve body disassembly. It is the gold standard for professional shops and advanced DIY builders who want a "one and done" repair.
Will this kit fix a 4L80E that has no 3rd or 4th gear?
If your 3rd and 4th gear clutches are physically burnt, this kit cannot replace the friction material. However, "Neutral" conditions in 3rd or 4th are often caused by the AFL valve wear addressed in this kit. If your hard parts are still good, the Sure Cure kit will restore the pressure needed to keep those clutches from slipping in the future.
Does this kit include the stator support bushing?
Yes! One of the biggest advantages of the SC-4L80E is the inclusion of the Stator Support Bushing. Bushing "walkout" is a major issue in 4L80E units that leads to catastrophic front-end failure; this kit provides the mechanical fix to prevent it.
Why is my 4L80E making a "buzzing" noise?
